MED 01 Computer Fundamentals

In this introductory course, students will learn how to use computers in business settings. This course provides students with practical experience using medical records management software in a simulated medical office. Students will learn how to enter patient data, post charges, handle payments, run financial reports, and submit insurance claims.

The course introduces students to the field of insurance billing and reimbursement. It also includes effective practices for managing electronic records, including training in indexing, file management, and the connection between electronic and image records.

This course reviews all the administrative tasks and responsibilities a Medical Administrative Assistant will perform throughout their job. Also, the course prepares students to take the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam through NHA.

The course enables students to gain vital career advancement skills, such as resume writing, interviewing, networking, effective communication, and time management. Students will also participate in mock interviews and learn how to use online job search tools.
