VAL01: Virtual Assistant Literacy
The course provides students with skills to provide administrative, creative, or technical services. Students will acquire essential skills in communication, time management, organization, and technical proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace. Students will learn to work with online collaboration apps such as Basecamp for task management and project tracking. In addition, students will learn to use virtual meeting tools such as Zoom and Google Meet.
MED03R: Medical Terminology and A&P
The course covers word-building rules, prefixes, suffixes, root words, and whole-body terminology. Students will learn terms covering anatomy and physiology, pathological conditions, and diagnostic treatments and procedures. Terms relating to each system and medical specialty will also be covered. Students will learn the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of each body system. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between body structure and function and the procedures common to health care. Students should be able to identify body system components and functions, relating this knowledge to the delivery of health care.
MED05: Basic Pharmacology
The course introduces medical assisting students to the study of medications and drugs. Students will learn the sources of drugs, their generic and brand names, the legal classification of drugs, routes and drug administration, and drug interactions.
MED30: Electronic Medical Records
Students in this course will learn and practice using a common medical records management software application in a simulated medical office. Students will learn and practice entering patient information, posting charges, payments, running financial reports, and filing insurance claims.
CR101: Clinical Rotation 1
The course provides placement of the student in a clinical setting in which the student will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the administrative duties required of a limited x-ray technician in a medical facility. Students will utilize the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom and apply those principles in a functional medical facility environment.
RAD01: Introduction to Radiography and Patient Care
During this course, students will be provided with the concept of optimal patient care and an overview of the foundations of radiography and the practitioner’s role in the health care delivery system. This course includes a review of general mathematics and its applications in radiology. Students will learn basic formulas and calculations used by radiographers to produce high-quality radiographic images.
RAD02: Radiation Safety and Infection Control
The content provides an overview of the principles of the interaction of radiation with living systems. Radiation effects on molecules, cells, tissues, and the body are presented. Factors affecting biological response are presented, including the acute and chronic effects of radiation. The content also presents an overview of the principles of radiation protection, including the responsibilities of the radiographer for patients, personnel, and the public. Radiation health and safety requirements of federal and state regulatory agencies, accreditation agencies, and health care organizations are incorporated.
The course also includes the professional responsibilities of the radiographer related to infection control and how standard precautions play a role in the prevention of illness and disease.
CR102: Clinical Rotation 2
The course provides placement of the student in a clinical setting in which the student will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the clinical and laboratory duties required of a limited x-ray technician in a medical facility. Students will utilize the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom and apply those principles in a functional medical facility environment.
RAD04: Radiographic Digital Image Production and Evaluation
The purpose of this course is to establish knowledge and an understanding of the components, principles, and operation of digital imaging systems found in diagnostic radiology.
As well as the image production process.
CDV01: Career Development
The course enables students to develop and plan for career advancement. Students will learn resume writing, interviewing, networking, effective communication, managing time effectively, and the use of internet-based websites in the job search. One-on-one mock interviews will be conducted.
