In this course, students will learn about therapeutic agents, their effects on the human body, and their role in disease management. The course provides information regarding drug dosages, side effects, interactions, toxicities, and incompatibilities.

This course will teach students prescription processing and preparation, pharmacy operations, and workflow. Students will also learn about alternative therapies and herbal remedies.

The course aims to teach students about different types of hospitals, hospital pharmacy standards and procedures, hospital orders, and communication with nursing staff. It also discusses advanced and specialized pharmacy technician opportunities. Students will learn institutional pharmacy operations, management, and workflow.

This course will teach students about different types of insurance, pharmacy billing, and inventory management.

Certifications

There are two main certification exams:

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE):: Offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). You can qualify by completing an approved education program or gaining 500 hours of work experience.
  • Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT): :Administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). This exam requires completing an approved training program or 1,200 hours of supervised pharmacy work.
