As a pharmacy technician, you play an essential role in the optimal running of the pharmacy by helping licensed pharmacists dispense prescription medication to customers and/or health professionals. Pharmacy technicians are considered the backbone of the pharmacy, assisting the licensed pharmacist with the preparation of prescriptions and customer care. They will also interact with patients and/or customers on the proper use of medications.
The responsibilities of the pharmacy technician may vary a great deal depending on the practice setting, but may include, prescription intake and translation, gathering patient data, data entry, inventory management, filing prescription forms, medication delivery, dispensing filled prescriptions, and collecting payments. This is where your people skills and unwavering attention to detail, as well as comprehensive training, prove essential to your success as a pharmacy technician.
This program prepares students with comprehensive, hands-on training leading to a rewarding career. The small class sizes and flexible training, both on-campus and online, offer a great opportunity to learn new skills. Students will receive Sterile Product and Compounding certifications (NPTA) as part of their training. Students are advised that the ultimate responsibility to meet the State guidelines to qualify for the State license remains with the student.
Students who complete the program, and qualify under the State regulations, may qualify to sit for the following third-party certification exams:
- Pharmacy Technician Certification CPhT (PTCB)
- Phlebotomy Technician Certification NHA, CPT
