There has been a dramatic increase in the volume of highly personal patient information stored and transferred by medical organizations. If this information gets into the wrong hands, it represents a serious breach of those individuals’ privacy. The theft or release of such information exposes patients to identity theft and can open hospitals and clinics up to bribery attempts.
