About Medical Assistant Program

How to Become a Medical Assistant in Houston?

1. Education

2. Certification

There is no need for state licensure when becoming a medical assistant in Texas. However, employers may often prefer certifications for better job prospects. Below given are the main certifications that you can choose for medical assistants:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA): This certification is offered by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). It needs to pass an exam and either meet particular work experience or complete an accredited medical assisting program. 
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA): The National Healthcare Association (NHA) offers CCMA. To be eligible the students need to complete an accredited program or have relevant experience in the field.
